Question: Why sex education is important for Teenagers in our culture? Teentalker
Thanks for writing to us. It’s really a good question!
A young boy or girl who is just entering teen needs to learn all aspects of physiological and emotional changes that he or she will be going through while growing up. This information and awareness are absolutely essential for that young individual, to ensure that he or she can make informed choices as one goes through the teen years.
Due to a lack of information and awareness children could go through traumatic experiences that range from emotional to sexual abuse and physical abuse, without knowing the implications of these and this leads to the victim being emotionally and sometimes, physically, scarred for life. Sex education is not just about sex and birth control.
Sex education does not teach children how to have sex at an early age. It teaches them about the physiological, social, and biological aspects of leading a healthy sex life in the future. This encompasses not only the physical act of sex, but also – gender identity, physical changes, consent, awareness about sexual abuse, birth control measures, and prevention of AIDS and STDs.
