I have been cutting myself because of all of my problems. There are many guys who want to be there with me but I am confused.

Dear Teentalker,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns.

Balancing out a relationship with your academics can be really hard and all of this can get really confusing when a lot of guys are interested in you. This can be immensely flattering and really stressful at the same time since there are so many things going on in your life and with all that has been happening, you want all of this to get over and you certainly want all of that pain to come to an end. However, cutting yourself in anger and finding ways to harm yourself is not the solution to your problem. It will help you release your pent-up anger, but then you’re experiencing a lot of physical pain in the process. Instead, if you’re so keen on releasing your frustration (which is necessary), here are a few things, you might want to try out:

  • You might want to consider joining a fitness routine like a gym or Zumba session since that is a great way to release all the anger and make sure you don’t unnecessarily hurt yourself.
  • Write a letter and express your thoughts, feelings and all that you ever wanted to, but don’t send it to anyone. Instead, you might want to tear that letter into bits and throw it in a dustbin.
  • You can also try using the empty-chair technique, wherein you can place an empty chair in front of you and imagine the person who is making your life miserable is seated in that chair. Then say, all that you have to, to that person, but please make sure you have some privacy while working on this activity.
  • Try to shift your focus and think positive thoughts: Focus on all that makes you happy and all those people and things who make you feel good about yourself. Then dealing with the pain that you are going through will become a lot more manageable.

You can also work on the tools ‘Your Safety Kit’ and ‘Who can you talk to?’ as well as read some relevant articles and watch videos by exploring the category of suicide and self-harm.

Hope this helps, if you have any other queries do connect online for chat between 11 am-8 pm or drop us an offline message.
