Shattering the set definitions and conventions of beauty and what is considered good looking; models today are taking on the runway of life and walking with panache the ramp of their destiny, comfortable in their own skin, shape and size.

That beauty is beyond convention and definition and that it lies in claiming your identity is precisely what these models are out to prove. Let’s take a minute to celebrate these certain few for their path breaking work towards redefining beauty standards…

Winnie Harlow

She has a lot to her credit but most of all, she has the confidence to wear her skin without any inhibitions!

Unlike most other blue-eyed models with lighter skin tones, Winnie Harlow has Vitiligo (a skin condition) and has still managed to become the most sought after name in the fashion industry today.

Apart from having graced the covers of top notch fashion magazines like Vogue and L’Officiel, and having walked the ramp for brands like Chanel, it is no biggie that Harlow has a massive following. Also, she has some of the biggest fashion campaigns to her credit.

Archana Akhil Kumar

Closer home we have Archana who has carved her niche in the Indian fashion fraternity. From being the face of Lakmé Fashion Week to being India’s biggest designer, Sabyasachi’s muse, Kumar is taking the Indian fashion world by storm.

With those well-defined collar bones, flawless complexion and the confidence of an Indian goddess, Kumar is everything Indian fashion needs to be.

Khoudia Diop

Diop, with her melanin rich skin tone, is changing beauty standards and shattering beauty stereotypes like no other. This coloured girl is so known, after the campaign (by the same name) that she was photographed for and rose to fame soon after.

On an Instagram post, where Diop has a massive following of over 120k followers, she took on to her bullies and wrote; “Bullies use to come with all kind of names thinking I’ll feel bad about my color well guess what I loved them all and showed them how much I didn’t care about what they think.”

Isn’t she the most stylish badass for taking on them, bullies with such oomph!

Erika Linder

Speaking of being comfortable in one’s own skin and sexuality, the super model setting the most unique example is Erika Linder. From posing as an ultra-feminine, high-fashion model to also posing as a well-groomed male model, Linder is blurring any lines that might keep her from being who she is for a person!

Her twitter bio interestingly reads; “I have too much imagination to just be one gender.” Linder is a popular face with magazines and brands like Marie Claire, L’Officiel and Louis Vuitton.

Tess Holliday

In a world full of hourglass bodies and perfect figures, she is a size 26 model.

With the unmatched confidence and some of the biggest high-street fashion campaigns to her credit, she has been named one of the 30 most influential people 2016 by the Time Magazine and has over 1.3 million followers on Instagram. Size no bar, baby!
