Question : It’s been about a year and a month since I first tried meth. I have desperately tried to get off of it multiple times but I can only manage to get it for short periods of time. I have been to rehab but I still relapse. My family doesn’t even know as they live in different cities and I can’t tell them. Meth has taken my life and turned it upside down, please help.

Dear Teentalker,

Thanks for sharing your issue. I can really see how tough you are feeling to kick off this habit.

One day you will overcome all of those battles. Stay strong. Drug addiction is a really bad habit and it’s really difficult to overcome it. Family mediation really helps in such cases so I would advise you to definitely share it with them, no matter how difficult this is. Socialize more, this will distract your mind. Join some gym or meditation classes.

When you feel a strong urge, have some water or go out for a walk or wash your face. Keep yourself busy with studies or some hobbies. The more you sit idle the more you think about it. Go through our tools section, it will help you. Learn more about its harmful effects which will give you a realistic realization. Try to wean off this habit gradually.

Do note that in the end, we can just advise you, but ultimately it’s you who has to take the charge. Don’t destroy your present and future. Think about your parents and your career. I hope this helps. If you are needing more regular support to get rid of this habit you may seek a professional counsellor to help you. Should you have any other queries, do connect online for chat between 11am-8pm or drop us an offline message.

Regards,

Expert Teentalkindia
