Question : I am very skinny and everybody makes fun of me. I don’t feel like eating and I spend at least one hour and a half running, jogging or playing badminton. I feel really bad when my friends make fun of me and how I look. What should I do?

Dear Teentalker,

Thank you for reaching to us about your concern. I can understand how painful it might be for you when your friends make fun of how you look and that you don’t feel like eating.

You also mentioned that you don’t eat much and spend a significant amount of time in physical activities. I would like for you to reflect on the things about food you dislike which keep you fom eating enough. It’s important to provide your body with enough and more nutrients on a daily basis, especially when you are utilizing energy and your body in activities. I would also recommend that you try to reduce your time spent on these activities for the time being and perhaps visit a nutritionist. You are slim and that’s okay. I understand that people make fun of your appearance but please know that you are more than how you look.

Begin with eating at least three meals a day, whatever you like. Add a fruit to your diet and consume at least one portion of protein. If you are non-vegetarian, you can have chicken or fish and if you are a vegetarian, you can have paneer, lentils, pulses, beans, broccoli, oats, etc.

Remember, your body needs the same kind of love and care that you would give to another person or animal.

Hope this helps. If you wish to discuss your query further, please chat with us from Monday through Saturday between 11am and 6pm or leave us an offline message.

Regards,
