Dear Teentalker,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns.
Having a crush, then eventually falling in love and being in a relationship can be a truly wonderful feeling! However, before getting into a relationship, you also need to ask yourself, "Why do you intend to want to be in a relationship?", "Do you have any short-term or long term plans with this boy?" and what about his plans? Dear Teentalker,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns.
Having a crush, then eventually falling in love and being in a relationship can be a truly wonderful feeling! However, before getting into a relationship, you also need to ask yourself, "Why do you intend to want to be in a relationship?", "Do you have any short-term or long term plans with this boy?" and what about his plans? "Why does the boy choose to be in a relationship with you?"
From your parent's perspective, the concern appears to be valid as well; according to them, you're dating a guy who is 8 years older than you are, who has finished his Bachelor's degree and has already gone through the adolescence phase including the first crush phase. He also has a better take on life and already has some idea of what he wants to do with his life in terms of his career, since he has already finished college, while you're just getting started with your teen years and you're yet to figure out your interests and yourself, overall, which can possibly make you more vulnerable.
However, please don't get me wrong here, I'm not trying to take sides, all I'm trying to say is that you take things slow and make sure you continue to keep yourself occupied with your pursuits, whether it is your studies, hobbies, extra-curricular activities and career goals. Don't lose sight of that!
The other thing I would like to point out is that, sometimes things might actually work out well, but then, you never know! That is why it is important to follow your own path if you want to do really well in life and make sure you don't end up getting hurt!
