Hello Teentalker,
Thanks for writing to us. It's avery good question that you have asked. So the full form of AIDS is Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. AIDS is a set of symptoms (or syndrome as opposed to a virus) caused by HIV. HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks cells in the immune system, which is our body’s natural defence against illness. The virus destroys a type of white blood cell in the immune system.
The common symptoms are rapid weight loss, unexplained tiredness, Pneumonia, fever or profuse night sweats, sores of mouth and genitals.
It can be spread through unsafe sex, using unsterilised needles, from HIV+ mother to the offspring, There is no cure for HIV yet. However, treatment can control HIV and enable people to tove and a long healthy llife. If you think you’ve been at risk of HIV, it's important to get tested. Testing is the only way to know for sure if you have the virus.
