Dear Teentalker,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns. Puberty or the process of going through sexual maturity as a teenager is an individualized process. Typically, by the age of 13, most boys start to experience change in their voice. It might be early for some and a little delayed for others.
Basically, when the voice of a boy starts to sound more like a man, what really happens is that a boy's voice box called 'larynx' begins to grow and the vocal chords also start thickening. Then, to top it all, society tends to treat you more like an adult as compared to your peers because of the way you sound. This might leave you feeling confused and wondering if you should continue to hang out with your peers at all. It is alright to experience the confusion and know that you can also discuss your concern with a parent, an older friend/sibling or a Counsellor.
And most importantly, remember, that it is a transition phase you're going through in order to become an adult and that it is a very natural and a normal process.
Hope this helps, should you have any other query do connect online for chat between 11am-8pm or drop us an offline message.
Best regards,
