Thank you for sharing your query with us. I understand that during holidays it feels wonderful to wake up late in the morning and also do things until late at night. There is no harm in doing this for a few days in the beginning of your holidays. We all enjoy sleep and the liberty of not having a schedule to follow. However, this time is also essential for us to use our energy into something productive as well as enjoyable which we may not be able to do otherwise.
I understand from your query that you have the willingness to change your sleep schedule and transition into waking up early. It’s a good place to start. It is important that you avoid making very drastic changes. To begin with, try to sleep only fifteen minutes earlier than you do now and aim to wake up only fifteen minutes before your usual time. Set an alarm for 10:45am if you otherwise wake up at 11am. Try this for a few days until you get used to the change. Gradually increase the time to half an hour, an hour and more. I understand you might be engaged in engaging activities like watching TV, surfing the internet and likewise at night which keeps you awake. Try to cut back on these activities and replace them with others like reading a book in bed or taking a warm shower. These will help you sleep earlier than midnight.
Once your alarm rings in the morning, pull yourself out of bed and immediately step out of your bedroom. Now that you are up, you will stay awake. Once you begin to wake up earlier in the day, you can also encourage yourself to go outside and walk, run, play an activity, meditate or any other outdoor activity you might like. Keep your gadgets away from you when you decide that you need to sleep at night. The blue light from screens disrupts your melatonin level which is responsible for your sleep cycle.
Try these tips for now and see if they work for you. Be compassionate toward yourself. Keep at it and soon you will see the break of dawn, beautiful and bright. Hope this helps. If you wish to engage with us further, please don’t hesitate to connect with us again. You got this!
