Thanks for reaching out.
People say that panic brings out the worst in us. This happens especially in situations like these. There is a difference between doing things out of fear and doing things out of awareness. Dear Teentalker,
Thanks for reaching out.
People say that panic brings out the worst in us. This happens especially in situations like these. There is a difference between doing things out of fear and doing things out of awareness. If we are aware then, then there is a sense of responsibility within us which helps us to make decisions consciously.
But when we start thinking about all the negative things, fear starts controlling us. We often make many mistakes out of fear which can make our life problematic in the future.
There are many people who are experiencing mild body aches or heart pain while they’re going to sleep and then it goes off after a few minutes. Some people are feeling restless whenever they hear news about coronavirus/COVID-19.
This may happen due to our defence mechanisms -- “fight or flight” response to deal with anxiety. Whereas there are also people who are taking all precautions and protective measures necessary to safeguard them from the novel coronavirus.
We can see that such people are surviving this phase of the pandemic in a much better way than those who are thinking about all the negative things that could happen and experiencing mild panic attacks out of fear.
To deal with this feeling you can try to –
- Limit your daily updates about COVID-19.
- Spend positive time with your loved ones.
- Maintain a journaling practice.
- Try to learn something new and exciting and give at least 1-2 hours for that every day.
- Do some meditations or breathing exercises whenever you feel anxious or fearful.
- Express gratitude.
