I am highly sensitive to certain kinds of sounds. This has affected my studies.

Question : I am highly sensitive to sounds of ticking of a clock, dogs barking and wood cutting machine. It gives me a severe headache and has also affected my studies. Does that mean I have a mental illness? Teentalker , 17-year-old

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns.

Sounds of wood-cutting machine and other high frequency sounds can certainly be distressing and even more so, when you are trying to focus on your studies. It is possible that all of this is making you anxious and that you need an outlet to release all the stress you are going through. It does not necessarily imply that you are dealing with any mental illness. Bringing about certain lifestyle modifications might help!
