Aviation service is a growing and lucrative field today. Many people are opting to join this profession for different reason like the compensation structures, meeting new people, travelling across the world and likewise. It is important to understand that becoming an airhostess requires you to remain in the plane for long durations and offer your services to passengers and crew. It is also a time demanding profession.
The role of an airhostess includes passenger safety, passenger comfort, and other relevant tasks and responsibilities. Airhostesses have an average career span of eight to ten years after which they can can transition to ground duties which include Check Hostess, training of air hostesses, ground hostess or work at the management level. Airhostesses can also be later promoted to senior flight attendants or head attendants. The minimum educational qualification to pursue an aviation service course is 10+2. The preferred age range is 17 to 26 years. Apart from having positive attitude and pleasant personality, communication skills play a major role. Minimum Height required must be 5.2” or 157 cm. Weight of the candidate must be in proportion to their height. Each Airline company conducts examination for recruiting airhostesses. Usually the entire selection process can be divided into 3 stages. Written Examination: Written exam tests your aptitude and reasoning. The exam pattern is quite similar to other competitive exams where they ask multiple choice questions. Group Dynamics or GD: Second stage is Group Discussion where you will be tested for your presence of mind, communication skills, team work, leadership quality, attitude, etc. Interview: Third and final round is a personal interview. Here the company will evaluate your personality. If selected, the company will train you for next six months. Airline Services Training Institutes and Academies There are certificate, diploma and degree programs available for becoming an airhostess. They differ in duration with certificate program of 6 months to one year to degree program of 3 years.
