In order to become a class 1 police officer in India, you need to clear the IPS (Indian Police Services) exam which is held by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
In order to be eligible to appear for the IPS exams, you should have completed your graduation in any stream from a recognized university by UGC. So, if not taking Maths, doesn't get in the way of you graduating from a program, then don't worry. Many Arts related programs don't require you to take up Maths anyway. You cannot appear for the Civil Services after.....

You cannot appear for the Civil Services after completing class 12th. You can do so only after completing your graduation in any stream.
You need to be physically fit though; for men the minimum height required is 165 cms and for women it is 150 cms. The minimum chest girth for men is 84 cms and for women is 79 cms.
Having a good VISION is of utmost importance, so, if you have Myopia, it should not exceed -4.00D.
While preparing for the IPS (Civil Services exams), you need to be aware of Indian History, Geography, Political Science as well as Science and Technology. You can start your preparation by reading the newspaper daily and making notes related to current affairs.
The IPS exams as of now have to be cleared in 3 stages:
- Step 1- Preliminary Exams- if you qualify then you can move to the next stage, which is
- Step 2- Mains Exam followed by
- Step 3- Interview
General Candidates can appear for the entrance exams up to 7 times from 21-32 years of age.
