Dear Teentalker,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns.
It is wonderful to know that you are interested in pursuing a career in the field of mechanical engineering.
While it is true, that relatively fewer girls choose Mechanical Engineering as a career as compared to Computer Science and Electronics and Telecommunication, the truth is things are changing slowly but surely and we do find that professions and sectors such as Mechanical Engineering are finding more and more acceptance among females.
Colleges typically encourage females to take up Engineering related professions and even companies in different sectors are encouraging women to come on board, for example, chemical and utility industries.
If you wish to switch careers or work in a different setup after getting your degree in Mechanical Engineering, then that is possible too. A lot of Mechanical Engineers also find themselves working in the IT sector, Electronics industry as well as Consumer Goods Industry.
