Dear Teentalker,
Thanks for reaching out.
When deciding on a career path it is very challenging to know whether your chosen industry will continue to grow or not, become oversaturated or even become completely redundant. It is clear that the trend is towards IT and automation and this is set to remain the case for the foreseeable future. Traditional fields such as civil and petroleum engineering are still in demand, but the fastest growing fields are those in the IT sphere.

1. Software engineering: Software engineering has seen continuous growth over the past few years and there are no signs of stopping.
2. Petroleum engineering: Such engineers typically work on drilling methods, the design of drilling equipment and implementing and monitoring the drilling plan for the extraction of crude oil. It has been in demand for the past few years and is set to continue growing over the coming decade.
3. Civil engineering: It was a highly sought-after job in 2018 and that trend continues 2019. Civil engineers build the infrastructure on which we depend. There are various branches of civil engineering which make it difficult to saturate and it is therefore a great field to be in.
4. Electrical engineering: Electrical engineering is a very vast field which includes: power engineering, instrumentation engineering, and electronic engineering, among others.
5. Mechanical engineering: India always had an enormous heavy-manufacturing industries like steel, metal, forging, automobile and mining. All these industries require steady requirement of fresh engineering graduates.
It is also a myth that a mere selection of branch on the basis of current popularity can be labeled as a highest paying engineering branch. The two most important factors for the success in a career ahead are: a student's own potential & hard work and the category & reputation of the institution, which you go for. The popularity and ranking of engineering branches have been determined by a demand-supply situation and it changes in cyclic fashion.
Hope this is helpful. If you wish to discuss your situation further, please chat with us from Monday through Saturday between 11am and 8pm or leave us an offline message.
