Dear Teentalker,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns.
During the teen phase, many wish to lose weight, stay fit and look good! While some manage to accomplish this, some struggle to get there!
Remember, how you view yourself, will also determine the way others look at you. What appears to be getting in the way of you reaching out to others and trusting them has probably got more to do with the way you think at an unconscious level.
The core negative self-belief you appear to be operating out of is " I'm not good enough" (Negative self-talk).
Here are a few suggestions that can potentially help you to boost your self-confidence:
- Change from negative self-talk to positive self-talk: At the core, the negative self-talk, 'I'm not good enough' needs to change to positive self-talk 'I am good enough'. You can also work on the 'Automatic Thoughts' activity to identify some of the irrational beliefs you're dealing with and change them to rational ones.
- Shift your focus: Instead of looking for love, attention and acceptance from friends and family, focus on self-love. You may want to take the first step by writing down '20 things I love about myself'. It might seem a little difficult at first, but the journey will be worthwhile.
- Say positive self-affirmations to yourself daily: Everyday before going to bed, try saying, "Day by day, I am getting better and better. I am precious, special and unique", at least 5 times before going to bed and 5 times when you wake up in the morning; in order to make yourself feel good.
- Get to know yourself better: Become aware of who you are as a person by working on the following tools- 'The MPS Process', 'Automatic Thoughts', 'Boost your self-esteem', 'The DEARMAN technique', 'You are so worth it'. You can also learn more by clicking on the toolbox tab and select the option 'tools'
- Meditate:This will make you self-aware and help you to stay calm. Apart from that, it will also give you the much needed clarity in terms of what you should do next.
Focus on loving and accepting yourself entirely. At some point, the world will also come to love you and accept you for the person you are. Hope this helps, if you have any other query do connect online for chat between 11am-8pm or drop us an offline message.
