Dear Teentalker,

I agree that social media or browsing the internet can distract. However, exercising self-control is crucial in this matter.
You can take the help of technology. These days phones have digital well-being apps that allow you to help you curtail your internet usage, based on applications and browsers. After a certain time, the apps get locked and only unlock after a few hours. You can try such apps to limit access.
If you find this method a tad bit complicated, you can simply hand over the phone to your parents while studying. When you feel you've done studying for the day and in a dire need of a break, you can ask for it back.
Also, it is imperative for you to include small timeouts in between your study hours. For example, after studying for an hour and a half, you can take a 10-15 minutes break and during that time instead of using your phone, take a walk around the house, or read something to refresh your mind. Watching TV isn’t advisable as any show with impactful themes can distract you when you once again sit to study. Make sure that you don’t study for more than an hour and a half in one stretch. Studying for longer times at a stretch will cause you more fatigue and you will crave longer timeouts.
