Dear Teentalker,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns.
At this juncture, you seemed to have figured out what you don't want to do. Congraultations!!! That's the first step in the right direction. However, your parents have certain dreams and expectations of you, based on their idea and understanding of what 'success' is, while you have come to formulate your own opinions based on the levels of exposure and life experiences you've had.
So, start figuring out what you're truly interested in and then work towards those goals. You can work on some of the tools such as 'The MPS Process', 'SMART goals', 'Boost your Self-esteem' and '20 things I love about myself', by clicking on the toolbox tab and selecting the 'tools' option. You can also read articles pertaining to the multiple intelligence theory, personality types and mindsets, as well as lessons you've learned after watching 3 Idiots by clicking on 'Articles' tab and selecting 'Academic Pressure'.
As far as convincing your parents is concerned, it is possible that getting them to agree with your point of view might take some time, but before that you also need to demonstrate a certain level of sincerity and be confident in whatever interests you choose to pursue. Please use the 'DEARMAN technique' tool from the toolbox in order to get your point across. You can also keep them aligned with some of the materials on career guidance that you've been referring to, so that they eventually come to understand your perspective. Bringing about a change in mindset requires persistence, patience and once you stay at it, you will come to realize that the journey was worth while.
Hope this helps, if you have any other query do connect online for chat from 11am-8pm or drop us an offline message.
