Question : Don’t know why I am very Introvert. I have many friends but I don’t feel like sharing my feelings. Teentalker , 16-year-old
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns.
Being an introvert can sometimes seem like a challenge in India, where socializing with family and friends is considered fairly normal, whereas someone who prefers to spend time with a few friends or is able to open up to only one or two family members is viewed in a very different way or might even perceived as ‘not too friendly’ or ‘rude’.
Introverts however, have a higher acceptance rate in many part of the world, since people are coming to realize that not everyone is the same and that many successful personalities such as Bill Gates are introverts as well! It is also natural for an introvert to spend more time on self-reflection and getting to know themselves better. Being around people all the time can seem draining and they would rather prefer to have some quality ‘me-time’ and relax by either listening to music or reading a book, just to name a few.
Extroverts, on the other hand, like to surround themselves with people all the time and love to actively get involved with various groups and activities.
Majority of us, though, fall in the third category called ‘ambiverts’. This means a person is neither completely an introvert nor an extrovert. For example, a person might struggle to open up with one set of friends and might be completely at ease with another group. So, try figuring out your likes and dislikes, your strengths and weaknesses. You might also want to try and attend those events which appeal to you. Who knows? You might just end up meeting people with similar interests and perhaps, even making some genuinely good friends in the process.
If you get the opportunity to do so, you must travel. It will give you a different perspective on life and who knows you might just end up discovering a different version of yourself.
